Country Gardens

One of our specialties at Michael Weishan & Associates is the country garden. I grew up in Wisconsin surrounded by field and farm, and though I'm now a thirty-year Bostonian, I've never forgotten my rural roots. This is a project we completed several years ago for a renovated barn in Sudbury, Massachusetts. The treatment is entirely simple, designed to respect the rural nature of the place: we created a "paddock" around the former sheep barn with a stone wall, punctuated it with flowering crab apples, and faced the front with a long perennial border which comes into flower when the owners are around to appreciate it most — autumn. This picture was taken in October and shows the full bounty of the New England fall garden. The paddock area is now a games lawn, perfect for croquet, volleyball, or an elegant garden party.
